The Electric

A very Beautiful Thing

5th Mar 2018

Sunday 25th February saw The Electric host a very special screening of the cult 1990s film Beautiful Thing, organised by the Birmingham LGBT festival SHOUT.

The film tells the story of two boys (Glen Berry and Scott Neal) on a council estate coming to terms with their feelings for each other, and has become one of the key titles in the development of LGBT characters and stories in British cinema.

Beautiful Thing screenwriter Jonathan Harvey (pictured) visited The Electric to talk about what inspired the film, which was itself adapted from Harvey's award winning stageplay, as well as its continued legacy for LGBT audiences.
