Fearlessly ambitious, scathingly funny, and thoroughly original, Sorry to Bother You loudly heralds the arrival of a fresh film-making talent in writer-director Boots Riley.

In an alternate present-day version of Oakland, California, telemarketer Cassius Green (Stanfield) discovers a magical key to professional success, propelling him into a universe of greed. With echos of Michel Gondry, Terry Gilliam and Mike Judge, this surreulist jet-black satire is punk-rock in celluloid form.

Did You Know? At one point, Detroit (Thmopson) wears a pair of earrings with the phrases BURY THE RAG and DEEP IN YOUR FACE. These are lyrics from "The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll" by Bob Dylan, which is a protest song about a poor African-American woman murdered by a wealthy white man. ("Bury the rag deep in your face/ Now's the time for your tears".)
